Obedience Training: The Foundation of Every Guardian Dog

A protection dog that cannot be controlled is a liability, not an asset. That’s why obedience training is the foundation of everything we do. Before a Guardian dog ever begins protection work, it must demonstrate reliable, consistent obedience in real-world conditions - not just in a training yard.

Our obedience program covers all standard commands (sit, down, stay, come, heel, place) and advances through off-leash reliability in progressively distracting environments. We train and proof behaviors in public spaces, around other animals, near traffic, in crowded settings, and in your home during the transfer period.

During the transfer training period, our team works hands-on with you to teach you the command structure, timing, and handling techniques specific to your dog. You will be confident and competent with your dog’s obedience before we leave.

All Guardian Dogs Are Trained In The Following:

Phase 1: The Foundation

Core commands are introduced through structured repetition in a low-distraction environment. Food reward builds motivation and communicates expectations clearly. Handler focus and willingness to engage are established before anything else is layered in.

Phase 2: Structure

Distractions are introduced deliberately and body language cues are phased out as the dog learns to respond to verbal commands alone. Stays and recalls extend in duration and distance. Food reward transitions to toy reward, building the drive-based motivation that carries into protection work.

Phase 3: Proofing

Commands are tested in real public environments busy sidewalks, parks, crowded spaces with no controlled setup. The dog executes on verbal command alone, the first time, regardless of what's happening around it. Behavioral tendencies identified and addressed before advancement.

Phase 4: Elite

The standard every Guardian dog must reach before placement. Obedience holds under drive, in high-arousal states, during protection scenarios, and under pressure. Commands are immediate, require no repetition, and the dog remains socially stable and handler-focused in any environment.
